Description
SHAHAN is a collection of three hand-painted ceramic wall plates inspired by Persian miniature painting, royal attire, and the visual symbolism of kingship in Iranian culture.
Each plate represents a different aspect of sovereignty. The first portrays the Warrior King, embodying courage and the defense of the realm. The second presents the Court King, expressing dignity, order, and the refinement of royal life. The third depicts the Ceremonial King, whose symbolic crown evokes the mythical and sacred dimension of Persian kingship.
Rather than portraying identifiable historical rulers, the collection reinterprets the visual language of Persian miniature painting through a contemporary lens. Monochromatic brushwork, restrained compositions, and simplified forms direct the viewer’s attention to the figures, their garments, and the symbols of authority.
Together, the three plates read like consecutive folios from an illuminated Persian manuscript, exploring the enduring relationship between power, wisdom, and cultural memory.
